Looks and locks

Oh wow, this whole outfit post thing is hard!

The fact that I have a crappy camera isn't helping.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to change
the Automatic White Balance, so nothing purple comes out purple
(and I think you can all appreciate what trauma that is for me...)

But even harder is looking at pictures of myself
and my clothing choices. "Is this pretty enough to post?"
"Is this representative of my style?" "Why do I look so weird..?"
But I said I would give the outfit post a go, so here goes:

Below are a couple of my more romantic looks, with cute dresses
and short knitted cardigans. (I wear black cotton tights with everything).

The next look is clearly more 60's inspired. This dress was
actually a weird poofy thing when I bought it on sale a while ago,
but I took it in and now it's one of my dressier dresses.

I'm not a big fan of gold (I actually sold most of my gold jewelry
6 months ago) but I like the vintage look and the heft of brass jewelry.
This is my grandmother's Lapponia necklace from the late 1960's
and one of my mom's old bracelets that she gave to me.

Some of you have already heard about my hair dyeing débâcle
a week ago. I bought a purple hair dye 'Mystic Violet' (above)
- but it was nowhere near purple! My hair turned out a 90's
mahogany red :( To fix it, the on-line shop sent me the blueish black
'Cosmic Blue' free of charge, but the final result is just black.
I don't really mind it, but I really did want PURPLE hair.

    1. Thanks and agreed, I also love silver.

  3. I'm not a fan of gold jewellery either, and love all the outfits you've shared ♥

I stopped dying my hair bright colours because I wanted to keep it long and the constant bleaching meant I had to trim it more often. After bleaching, I would colour with 'La Riche Directions', which doesn't damage your hair further, comes in a vast array of colours, and is really affordable.

If you do decide to give it another go, good luck!

    1. I didn't want to bleach it first, so I was never going for a bright vibrant purple. Maybe some day I will want to go crazy, but for now I am a Raven :)

  4. It is difficult to look at ourselves gently or positively, but you have a lovely gothic romantic style that I adore. Cut yourself some slack, my dear; you look fabulous!

    1. You're so sweet, Sarah, thank you! And yes, in this world it truly is hard.

  5. All haircolours from that series besides the red are a huge disappointment! I'd vote to try either Special Effects (the best but expensive), Directions or Manic Panic for purple hair...

And your outfits look great, you should not fret to show them off!

    1. I wish I had known that before I tried! Directions and Manic Panic are not permanent though, right? I want something that stays in and doesn't need upkeep.

  6. Purples never photograph perfectly-- it's just the nature of such a beautiful color! Heh.
I really love your style! Keep them coming =D

    1. Too beautiful a color to let itself be captured, heh? :)
      Thank you!

  7. I love the outfits. Sorry your hair dye didn't work. I've heard that Manic Panic is a good brand. (Haven't tried it myself though.)

  8. I love the outfit too. Dark, simple and elegant. You make me want to blog about clothes, and I'm not into fashion one bit.

    1. Thank you! Maybe you can showcase accessories if you have them - like hats or scarves?

  9. Some bloggers make outfit posts look so easy but I agree with you; they're hard especially when you cut off your head :p ha ha ha

Seriously, love the style :) I'm not a big fan of yellow gold but I look the other way when it's a special piece.

    1. I know! I look at these outfit blogs and I'm blown away. Not so much by my own pictures...
I cut my head off for many reasons, but who knows what changes are to come :)

  10. I've never done an outfit post. Then again, I don't dress up much... And I doubt anyone wants to see me in my pajamas or in my workout clothes.

I always imagine you in black and purple--tell that camera that I'm not happy with it at all. How can it treat you that way? Terrible. I hope you can find the perfect purple for your hair, by the way.

And that first outfit, with the boots? Hot! ♥

    1. It is a bit naughty of the camera to treat me like that, right?

I think if you met me you'd be disappointed by the lack of actual vibrant purple in my closet. Everything is muted - or black.

You post pictures of yourself every now and again, so we still get a sense of your style. I think because I never post pictures of myself I felt like something was missing from my blog. Hence the outfit post.

  11. Ah, let us not talk about hair colour disasters:-S
I love the outfits. Hope to see more!
I used to hate gold with a vengeance, but not anymore. I like the contrast between black and gold. I also like mixing metals. I might be turning into a whole different person.

    1. Oh, you've had your share, huh? Stupid hair dyes.

I have been experimenting with hair colors, nail polish and new looks lately, and I can relate to the "whole new person" thoughts. But of course I'm not, I amjust letting my true self shine through a bit more :)

  12. Shame about the hair colour ... I really wanted you to have purple too! I think your outfit pictures are very good! The one time I asked the spouse to do one of me for a Sophistique Noir blogger event, they turned out so awful I didn't even write my contribution. Lovely man ... lousy photographer. ;)

My favourite is the first one 'cause I'm a fan of stompy boots...

    SvaraRadera
    Svar
    1. Yes, I live in stompy boots 8 months out of the year, it was just too hot that one day with the picture of me in flats. Any outfit post from now on will have boots though.

What a shame about your outfit post! I know what it's like when you think you look all spiffed up and will take a great picture (for once) and it all comes out fuzzy-double-chin-weirdo...
