Today was my first day back at University!
Quite a few things have changed since I last was a student.
First of all, everything is on-line. No more snail mail and
ridiculous phone hours. Application, registration, course schedules
and all information is handled or can be accessed via the Internet.
The teachers are more accommodating and available.
I have already been corresponding with several helpful faculty members,
and during the introductory meeting today many teachers encouraged
us students to contact them at any time, about basically anything.
On the bachelor level all students have to choose whether we want
to write our paper within literature or linguistics. A decade ago
barely anyone chose linguistics, but after restructuring
the lesson plan (and because the literature department is still
drudging Shakespeare and Austen) now 2/3 choose linguistics.
I too have chosen linguistics. My main interests are dialects
and accents, but I haven't really gotten further than that.
I'm hoping I will get some ideas once the term really begins.
This is how I celebrated my first day back to school.
Yes, that's a BIG glass of red wine.
And yes, those are 5 new bottles of nail polish.
