Dye and glue

I found an article about dying wool in the microwave, just using
food coloring and white vinegar, and I tried it out on some old gloves.
I used blue, red and black dye - all in all maybe 20 ml - in a glass jar
with 1 part vinegar to 5 parts hot water.

Microwave on full for 2 minutes, then stir. Repeat until insane...
It took me about 10 times to get the shade I wanted. You're supposed
to let it cool down in between runs to prevent it from boiling over,
but that took too long... Yeah, my microwave is a purple mess now :)

I made some cheap autumn and Halloween candle holders,
because clearly you can never have too many of those.
I'm itching for it to be September already so I can start decorating
my house for the fall season. I even called a nearby Garden Center
to inquire about pumpkins and gourds ('Not yet' was the answer...).

What have you guys been up to lately?

  2. Yeah I've never heard of wool dying in a microwave before! What a brave soul that person who first tried it must've been!

    1. You know, I think that first person was drunk and more like; "Fuck it, I'm bored - let's see what this microwave CAN DO!"

  3. Oooo, the gloves are lovely! I had no idea you could dye wool in the microwave, that's neat! I love those candle holders. I keep thinking I am going to do something similar to this but never get around to it... actually, my craft ideas pinterest board is full of stuff I want to try and never get around to doing. LOL!

    1. Thank you, I really like them too! I never really liked them in white - obviously.

I have to wait for inspiration to come before I create. Some nights I'm just in bed, pouring red wine for myself...

  4. What a pity that the microwave dying didn't go as you planned. Was the colour to light or not the right shade? I'm asking because I'd might like to try that as well...

    1. No, the dying went exactly as I wanted - I love the purple shade I got! It's just more of a lengthy process than I thought, and it made a mess out of my microwave :)

Yes, the Garden Center guy was like: "What..? Pumpkins..?" Then he had to go and ask a second guy :)

Jodå, det är min plan at blogga mer framåt hösten, när saker och ting är i ordning i mitt hus igen :)

  7. I love the color the gloves turned out. The candles are very festive too. I've been fall cleaning out my house in 103 weather all week {yuck}, once I get rid of all the crap that takes up space and time, I will craft my heart out! Sorry about the buyer pulling out last minute that sucks....

    1. Thank you!
My house could certainly use a good fall cleaning out too - though I don't think I would even consider the undertaking in 103 degrees!

Is York in a dark zone..? ;)

  9. I looooooooove the candleholders! The gloves look great but do they dye your skin at all when you wear them?

    1. Thank you!
No, if you rinse them properly after dying they shouldn't. The vinegar helps bind the dye to the wool.

  10. Purple microwaves sound like a world of fun... I'm sure. ;-)

The candle holders look super cute.

I have been doing a lot of cooking and walking and taking pictures and enjoying Friday Harbor. I'm exhausted!

    1. You sound so healthy and domestic ;)
I have had little interest in cooking lately, since it's just me most nights. Maybe that will change once my man moves back home.
