Haunted Humpday VIII - Halloween cottage tour!

Happy 8th Haunted Humpday!

I finally feel all caught up with the Halloween makin',
and today I thought I'd show some of the things we've done
for Halloween in our little cottage this year.
(More to come in 2 weeks, for The Professor's Monthly.)

The only people we have over for Halloween is my family,
and since I have three nieces - the youngest is two -
our house is decorated in a more "family fun" way for Halloween
than me and my man would personally choose.

I found the salt and pepper shakers at our town square
flea market the other week - for next to nothing. I love them!
(I also thrifted a warm cardigan, for autumn days at the store.)

I bought these streamers this spring when I visited my man
in the States. We have nothing Dia de los Muertos related in Sweden
so I was thrilled to find these - they perk the dining room right up!

We have a small and narrow mantel, so it can be tricky to decorate.
At some point in the future I would love a big open fire place,
- as much for the decorations it can fit, as for the fire.

These guys are hanging out in my bathroom. I realized this year
that we have the perfect wall lights to make bed sheet ghosts!
I just used some black velvet cloth for eyes and mouth.

And lastly; Here are some of our late pumpkins. I don't have high hopes
for them turning color before Halloween, but if they don't I plan on
spray painting them purple and black, so no-one will be the wiser :)

Thank you for visiting, and thanks to Marfi for hosting!
Our hostess if feeling a little under the weather this week
so please head over to her blog to cheer her up :)

    1. Thank you! It has taken blood, sweat and tears (=many years, lots of looking and planning) to get this far, but I am by no means done!

    1. Thank you, I hope they do! It's hard when my brother keeps procreating, there's always a tiny one to take into account ;)

  10. Wonderful bathroom light ghosts! I hope you don't mind if I use your idea for my porch lights this Halloween. I love all your decorations! It seems mine always end up looking more funny than scary which is ok since there's mostly small children in our neighborhood. Can't wait to see the painted pumpkins! Cheers, Sarah

    1. Steal away!
I have the exact same issue, it all looks more playful than scary. I think it's because all the great scary stuff is really expensive - at least over here.

My pumpkin experiments are coming up next Humpday!

  11. This is all really cute! I love how you made the lamps into ghosts! So cute! And all the purple! Stop brainwashing me to love purple so much! I swear you got me into purple! :)

Is that a mirror on the ceiling? My eyes are confused.

    1. I feel ridiculously proud when I turn someone on to purple :) (No, you are not my first convertee)

We have very low ceilings, like 205 cm, so that mirror is placed right between the kitchen sofa and the ceiling. But I agree, when I cut out the sofa from the picture it looked a bit weird.

  12. Everything looks fabulous, Ms. Misantropia! And I think you should paint those pumpkins black and purple whether they change colour or not! :)

I am really looking forward to seeing Halloween in your house, Ms Insomniac - do you think you'll be moved in by then?

  14. I love it! It looks great. :) I too want a big fireplace when I get my first house. We have an electric one in the bedroom, but this year I'm only decorating the living room, my sewing room and - of course - the front porch.

    1. I grew up with an open fireplace but now we only have a small "stove" in the living room. I love staring into a fire, reading in front of a fire, burning things.... :)

    1. I love that, thank you! Isn't it funny, how we speak of our blog buddies to our partners, like they're IRL friends? I tell my man all the time things like; "A friend told me..." when really, it was just a comment on a post :)
