A Fanciful Punkin Party!

Welcome to our pumpkin carving party!

I'm in the middle of a 4-day weekend, resting up before all the (IRL)
Halloween craziness begins (the blog variety has already been going on
for a while). And the most important item on my to-do list for
the weekend is carving lots of pumpkins and drinking wine!

So grab a pumpkin and a knife and make yourself comfortable!
There's lots of snack food and the Halloween play-list is on repeat.
As always, Jack and Sally will be overseeing the progress.

Help yourself to a Pumpkin Spice cupcake with mascarpone frosting.
We're having my family over as usual for Halloween Sunday,
and not to be overwhelmed next weekend I made the dessert early.
So, obviously we have to sample it now, to make sure it edible :)

This is my first attempt ever to really sculpt a pumpkin.
It's supposed to be the Cheshire cat, but it's hard to see...

I love everything about carving pumpkins; the sweet smell,
the cozy warm colors - and the freedom of using one's
imagination and creativity without fear of failure,
because carved pumpkins will soon be rotted anyway.

There are also plain sugar and chocolate Halloween cookies.
I just learned that American sugar cookies are ideal for cutouts.
(Thank you, Marfi, for the pumpkin cookie cutter!)

Thank you, talented and whimsical Vanessa,
for (always) hosting such a magical party!
Please visit our hostess to check out her wonderful
party and to find links to the other participants.

  1. I love your pumpkins, you've done a fab job. Hellcome really made me smile. We're carving pumpkins this weekend too, it is lots of fun. :-)

Thanks so much for stopping by my party. Those cobwebs brush right off and you can hardly tell they were there, well until a bit gets stuck in your throat. ;-)

    1. Yes, carving is great fun! And thank you for sorting the cobweb thing out for me, it was really worrying me :)

    1. I hope so, they usually do :) Though one of my nieces unfortunately has Celiaki and can't enjoy the same things as the rest of us.

  3. Fabulous pumpkins! And those cupcakes make my mouth water! Some hot spiced wine would go perfect with those! Happy Halloween!

    1. You are so right, I can't believe I haven't gotten some spiced wine yet! It's already late in the year and it's huge in Sweden.

  4. I think we should live your under your carving pumpkin philosophy: without fear, since hey, this body is eventually going to rot anyway. A bit too creepy? Probably not... for me. *tee-hee*

Your overseers seem to take their watching job very seriously!

    1. I actually love that idea, and could use to live more like that - especially when it comes to my creative side. I'm always afraid of things coming out looking/sounding like crap.

    1. Thank you very much! Those cupcakes are a ritual, I make some every Halloween, preferably from my own pumpkins.

  10. I can definitely see the Cheshire Cat! :) Lovely job one and all!! I'm so glad you partied with us! Hugs! deb

  11. I might just have to steal that Hellcome idea for my pumpkin. I love your Jack & Sally candle holders. Iv'e always wanted to do a Nightmare before Christmas display for Halloween-Christmas, never get around to that though. Pumpkin spice cake sounds so gooood. I enjoyed your party, have a great weekend.

    SvaraRadera
    Svar
    1. I can't remember where or when I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure it's not my original idea - so go ahead and steal it :)
Many years ago a comic book and paraphernalia store was closing down and I got those candle holders and a Jack Skellington paper weight for half price. They get prominent places in the house every Halloween!

      Radera
  12. I have never tried sculpting either! I am sure I would punch through! What a fun table and I know your family will have lots of fun. I feel like this October was just a little too crazy and we are still trying to fit in everything else - Witches Night Out last night and Witches Tea today - I need to fly off!

    SvaraRadera

    1. I realized this year that sculpting works really well on the heaviest, thickest pumpkins, with like 2,5 inches of flesh. It was actually quite hard to make a mistake and punch through! I could probably have made my groves deeper.

      Radera
  13. Your pumpkins look amazing. How do you even start doing the sculpting, fantastic. Such a pretty Halloween x

    SvaraRadera
    Svar
    1. Thank you!
Get a really heavy, thick pumpkin and just shave off the skin - then start the sculpting :)

      Radera
  14. The sculpted pumpkin looks great. I love the way it really lights up. I agree--Hellcome-- super cute!
Thanks for stopping by. Have a spooky Halloween!

  15. I do believe you actually have a cutter I do not yet own! let the hunt for your bat cutter begin.
In our local deli they have been using the cute cutters on cheese. Now it is something I find myself doing. I do see your cheshire cat face! (when it allows me)
Sadly, my pumpkins began to rot before I had them deseeded. The yard bunnies were very pleased.

    1. I'm not sure but I think the cutter was bought at Williams-Sonoma a few years ago. It was a gift from the States :)

The Cheshire cat is already starting to rot too, it had a mushy part already when I was carving it. But that's life!

      Radera
  16. HI! Fun pumpkins! Thanks for sharing your party!

    1. You can make your own pumpkin spice, it's really just 4-6 different spices mixed up; cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves and ginger. I skip on the nutmeg, and I don't use ginger when I put it in coffee :)
