Haunted Humpday II and upcycled scoodies

Happy Autumn and Happy 2nd Haunted Humpday!

For this Humpday I wanted to do something decorative around the house,
but when I asked Cinnamon man whether he thought it was too early
for spooky Halloween decor he quickly answered 'yes'...

So I decided to go for something plainly autumnal instead.
Candles, apples, rose hips - on top of a leaf shaped felt place-mat
that our wonderful hostess, Marfi, gifted me earlier this year.

I have begun making my Halloween cards though.
This is really the only time of year I do any scrapping.
I'm not sure who to send cards to yet, but I enjoy the crafting.

In the name of autumn I also wanted to share a super simple DIY:

Many years ago I bought two pretty knitted scarves on super sale,
but wrapped around my neck the ends were still dragging on the ground.
I had to wrap myself up like a mummy and I sweated profusely
any time I wore one of them, so naturally they didn't get much use.

Then the other day I came across a great idea on-line; the scoodie.
Sewing together part of the middle on one side gave the scarves
cute hoodies and also reduced the lengths by about half a meter/yard,
making them the perfect length. Now I look for an excuse to wear them!

Thank you, Marfi, for helping us get into Halloween gear!

  1. What a lovely Autumnal setting with the candles and the leaf placemat and the berries! I like the scoodie idea too! Tempted to do that with one of my scarves, but the weather is already too warm!

    1. Maybe you can make a scoodie, pack it away for summer, and then be pleasantly surprised once autumn comes back around :)

    1. You know - he wanted me to print a retraction, apparently I got it wrong :) He said HE wasn't feeling Halloweenie yet, but that didn't mean I shouldn't deck the house. So next weekend I will start decorating!

    1. I had several mismatched little candle holders for a few weeks, and it made me depressed to look at. Now I enjoy sitting down at the table again :)

  8. Oh, it's definitely too early for actual Halloween decoration, but autumn is here already and your centerpiece is lovely. ^^ I also love the cards and the hood too! :)

  9. I see your point about Halloween decorations: I want them and I want them right now, THISVERYSECOND! But like The Gingerbread Man, The Gentle One is the rational part at home too, so I am containing myself the best I can. But I do like your Autumn centerpiece and I think I could do something like that (thanks for the idea!). On the meantime, I am going to keep buying little Yankee Candle pumkin scents. He doesn´t notice, and for me it is some consolation, hahaha.

    1. I love Yankee Candle too, and could have pumpkin and other autumn scents burning around the clock, but my man is unfortunately allergic :(

  10. I haven't started decorating even for Autumn yet, I'd better get started!

And I have to tell you, your eye peeking out of the scoodie totally freaked me out when I saw it as I scrolled by!

  11. It is a bit too hot for autumn here, but at least it is looking a bit more like it, with the leaves changing colours. I am tempted to start taking out Halloween decorations too. I have already started reading horror books.

    1. Thank you!

I just placed a big Halloween order with a new supplier, so this year I think we'll go all out :)

  13. Loveee that centre piece! I always have my Halloween decorations out by late August so I am not one to talk :P Do what makes you happiest I always say! It's going to be so empty around here when I have to put them away! I love the scarf DIY, I will often crochet the ends of very long scarves together in matching yarn to make infinity scarves out of them.

    1. That's good advice, Jennifer :) And I will start decorating next week.

That infinity scarf thing is a good tip, I should try it.

    1. I thought you were American and that all American stores go all out as soon as possible for Halloween, but maybe I've got it all wrong..?

  15. Love the decor, especially the candle holders! Your DIY scarf project find is really neat too!

  16. No, I don't think it is too early for Halloween decor. I have already bought, ordered, etc. some and created a tablescape. Can't post it yet though, it would freak out too many!

  18. LOVE the centerpiece. We haven't done a thing around the house. Not yet. So I'm a bit jealous. Maybe next week after my next torture session, I mean doctor's visit.

I think scoodies are a great idea!

And you are right about starting to make Halloween cards to send them out early, so that everyone can enjoy them during October.
