Pumpkins and wasps, teeth and drugs

This is one of my pumpkin babies, finally planted in the green house.
We had barely begun clearing it out Sunday morning before something got caught
in my hair. Thinking it was a fly I whacked at it - and was stung right in the knuckle.

Turns out a queen wasp thought the rolled up hammock under the grape vines
was an excellent spot for her new colony. So, we ended up only clearing out
2/3 of the green house for now. The exterminator is coming Friday.

 Yesterday was the big wisdom-teeth-pulling-day.
I got some relaxants before I went in and the dentist told me I might fall asleep
and wouldn't remember anything. Clearly she had never met an insomniac.

The first tooth came out quickly but the second one was a pain. The dentist
pulled and wiggled, and I felt my teeth grind and squeak, but nothing happened.
Her frustrations coupled with the drugs made me giggle in my seat.

After 20 min she called in a colleague who went at it with a different tool.
When it finally came out it turns out the root had made a hook at the end,
making it impossible to pull out without taking some flesh with it...

Despite all of that I feel ok today. I had some pain and bleeding yesterday
but that's basically gone already, and I have very little swelling.
This morning I even had my usual morning coffee and toast.

I'll finish off this post with a picture of the sunset on my bedroom wall,
just to try to erase that image of bloody teeth from your minds :)

  1. So to erase the image of the bloody teeth, your last sentence is about sunshine and bloody teeth? Yes, that works. Hahaha!

I can't stop giggling about you giggling while your dentist is trying to take a chunk out of you. I'm glad you are feeling well already. ;-)

    1. Haha, I see your point :)

I am so happy I asked for the highest dose and lots of local anesthesia. Otherwise I don't think I would have been giggling...

  2. Hello darling! Hello! Wisdom teeth are such a pain. I had three out at once ... I think I was 19? UGH! Lots of drugs and Pink Floyd's "The Wall" helped me through the procedure. Hey, if I'm going to be all hopped up on drugs I might as well send my mind on a crazy journey. HA!

YAY! PUMPKINS!!! My plants are beginning to flower, which is kind of late for us. My spaghetti squash is already producing fruit! Ah well, let's hope we get some nice pumpkins this year.

Sending you lots and lots of love and healing energy, my friend! MUAH!

    1. We were late planting this year, usually we harvest already in August-September. But I think we'll have plenty of pumpkins by Halloween :) Spaghetti squash sounds divine, maybe I could ask you to send me some seeds this fall?

  3. Your pumpkin babies look like they're doing great! I never got mine planted this year, so I'm going to have to get my pumpkin baby love through you. :)

Glad your tooth extraction went well and that you're already feeling better!

    1. We were late planting but I'm hoping this blog will overflow with pumpkin love come autumn :)

  4. So are you going to use those extracted wisdom teeth in a charm or something? Shame to just let them go to waste . . . .

    1. You know, I was thinking about it but I've never been into that whole taxidermy thing. Mostly I think pulled teeth just look gross :)

  5. You poor thing! A wasp sting, teeth pulled, and one of them a miserable hook root. Ugh! So glad the drugs are working. I think you used up your quota of bad luck and are due for some good luck soon. :)

    1. I hope you are right. I have big plans this weekend and would love for my pain to be gone by then.

  6. What fascinating wisdom teeth-- even though they were a pain to come out. They look quite unique. I had the only two I have ever grown taken out a year or so back. I almost wish I had grown the other two, because I delight in the way they look.

    1. Really? I have nothing to compare with I guess. They do kind of look like fangs upside down though :)

  7. When removing wisdom teeth, does that remove our wisdom too? :)
NOT the best thing, glad your veggie garden is coming along,
    ...:)...

    1. I think all I removed was future problems with keeping my back teeth clean :)

  8. I love the sunset picture, and the pumpkin babies! Ow, sounds like your teeth really had it in for you! Going to try and forget that story!

  9. Thanks for the pretty picture at the end, because that wisdom teeth story sounds excruciating! The way you said it was so calm though, I guess you aren't squeamish like me! Feel better soon, now that those damn teeth are out!

    1. I think the drugs helped ALOT :) I am not afraid of blood, but I don't like pain.

  11. Oh no, I hope you're okay now. I've only ever had a tooth pulled at the dentist once in my life. There were two dentists who took turns. Never again.

Your plants are looking lovely. I can't wait to see how big your pumpkins get this year.

    1. The one socket that gave them trouble is acting up a bit, but I'm hoping I will be mostly healed up by the weekend.

  12. Oh my goodness! Wisdom teeth are the worse. I hope you are starting to feel better!

    1. Thank you. I'm still in pain, mostly from them bending my jaw in impossible angles...
