Year without shopping - June update

June tested my faith. The hot weather made me long for new
airy summer dresses, and because I've gained some weight lately
not everything in my summer wardrobe fits me like it used to.

But I stood fast. I flipped through my dresses on several occasions,
reminding myself of the excess. Any time a customer tried on a dress,
or I saw a pretty one in a shop window, I pictured my packed closet.

Though I can't shop I can certainly want something fresh and new,
and the solution is obviously sewing. The issue is that summer is
beckoning for me to enjoy the outside, not to be cooped up inside.
The only thing for it might be moving the sewing machine out on the patio.

  1. I had the exact same problem this summer. I really wanted to sew myself some light summer clothes, but just can't find the hours it would take to do it. So I'm wearing my same old stuff. Maybe next year...

    1. I'm sure all our old stuff is just fine, but who doesn't love pretty new things? :)

  2. I've never thought of sewing out on the patio, but it sounds like a lovely idea on a summer's day... especially as you have such a beautiful patio!! :)

    1. Agreed. I move my laptop out there all the time - and it doesn't have a working battery, so I have to use a huge extension cord anyway - so why not the sewing machine?

  3. Yeah >.< I put on extra weight and now none of my shorts fit me. I'll be sewing up a new summer wardrobe soon.

    1. It's a good thing I don't use shorts (or pants for that matter) because I'm sure none would fit me either. I only wear tights and dresses, but the new weight makes the dresses... uncomfortable.

    1. I hope you're right. It's hard when every shop around is beginning their big summer sale...

  6. I guess it is about wanting what you already have, something I struggle with greatly!

    1. Think of it like this: humans wouldn't have evolved like we have if we were content once we had something we wanted :) It's the constant strive for new, more, better and different that keeps us going as a race.

  11. Great willpower! I actually am not a fan of shopping--I do most of it online...and only when my current clothes fall apart!

    1. Thank you! I don't like mall shopping but I do like browsing little quaint stores - but I like online shopping too... :)

  12. Good for you for holding true to your goal! I think it would be rather nice to sew outside. I might try it this autumn when it is cooler outside.

    1. Right after I had written this post a cold front came in over Sweden and it's been freezing and rainy every day...
