Easter weekend and 3 winners

It's a day of many season's firsts:
First day warm enough for bare-footing it and for drying laundry in the sun,
first day of garden work and sunscreen, and of lunch and laptop on the patio.

It's funny how sometimes we don't really understand what is amiss
until we are given it. Among budding flowers, bird song and happy kitties
my soul is beginning to feel some peace for the first time in months.

For atheistic reasons I don't really celebrate Easter.
If I had children I might use the time off to do something creative,
like dyeing eggs or arrange an egg hunt, but instead I spent Friday cooking
and baking for two friends of mine, one of which I hadn't seen in 6 months.

And instead of sill, eggs and snaps I made a meal influenced by the Americas;
Chicken with mash and corn. After weeks of fast food I needed something hearty.
For dessert I had made a rich chocolate truffle cake but even so, I found myself
in the kitchen baking caramel cookies late in the evening after dinner
- because my guests just wouldn't leave even after I ran out of food :)

Saturday I worked a half day and then spent the evening with my extended family.
(Just because I don't celebrate Easter, doesn't mean my family doesn't...)
We painted eggs and had lots sill and snaps. It was a nice weekend
but I'll be happy if I don't need to be sociable for a month or two now.

How did you guys celebrate Easter, if at all?

Now on to my Love Giveaway and the 3 lucky winners!
Congratulations to:

Winners, please send me your email addresses!

  1. When your guests won't leave that's a sign of a great hostess and having a good time! I live on the east coast (US) and my sister lives on the west coast. When she would come for a visit (during the time my parents were alive) I would have gatherings for her to see friends and relatives. When she got tired of it all, she would simply go to bed while everyone was there. I thought that so funny and I think no one missed her either.

    1. I can respect someone's need to pull away from social situations, but it's a little strange when the people are there to see her. My best friend used to invite people over quite often, but then tell them they had to leave when she had had enough :)

  2. I agree with Gail. Maybe your guests would leave if you'd stop cooking so well and being such good company. So cut that out! Haha! Love the cat pics. <3

    1. Haha, I take great pride in my cooking and baking, especially since I socialize so very rarely.

  3. This year my entire Easter celebrations consist of eating a package of hot cross buns from Safeway. A pretty simple celebration, LOL!

    1. I don't think I've ever had hot cross buns, but I saw them making it on The Great British Bakeoff and they looked delicious.

  4. Nothing special this year. I have to admit I do not enjoy big family gatherings and such. The fewer, the better.

    1. I enjoy family gatherings a couple of times a year, but otherwise I am mostly isolated in the countryside.

  5. No special celebrations around here.
The whole weekend it rained cats and dogs, so everything has been about popcorn and movies. Hopefully tge weather will improve tomorrow, so we can go out for a while.

I would suggest you not to be such a great host, so you go free faster! Haha... gatherings can be exhausting for me too. In my case, a couple if osolation weeks help to recover. I hope it works with you too :)

    1. We're having quite a few welcome-home gatherings once my man is back, so yeah - I'm taking these 3 weeks off socializing until he gets here.

  6. Sounds like you've had some really nice days! That's wonderful! Your kitties are very pretty :)
Normally, if I were back in Kansas, I would spend the day over at my Grandmother's. We'd have Easter dinner and I'd spend the afternoon with my Dad's sister's kids. Living where I am now, we don't really have a worked out tradition or celebration.
What we're doing today will be egg dying, making a dinner, and watching movies.

    1. Thank you, to me they're the prettiest - but they do pull alot of crap inside at night when the weather is this nice. Dust, seeds, ticks, ants...

  7. Your kitties are so beautiful! I can feel the sunshine and contentment. :)

We did the usual Easter get-togethers with both extended families. As a natural introvert, I feel like I need to go into serious hermit-mode now to recover from the socializing. ;)

Congrats to the giveaway winners! :)

Seems like many of us will be in hermit mode the coming weeks :)

  9. No special celebrations around here, either. Just good food an time spent outside on the first warm and sunny day we've seen in a while.

If you were to keep baking goodies, I'd have a hard time leaving too!

    1. If you are getting a cat - get two! It's not really any more work than one, but as a bonus they will play and keep each other company when you want to go out for a drink :)

  13. Ah your sweet kitty cats!!! I have been happily indulging in the beautiful warm springtime too, FINALLY! Longest winter in North America ever! Your dinner looked so beautifully springy and festive, my family is not religious but we celebrate the springtime and the bunnies of Easter with a nice meal.

Also am so pleased to see I was a winner! My email address is broomsticksandlace@gmail.com Thank you thank you!

    1. We hardly had any winter and have had a warm spring so far. It makes me think we'll be hit with a blizzard in a few weeks... :)

      I've emailed you!

  14. I did some gardening and we watched a movie, I think. I can't quite remember. I just know we were together. Not really to celebrate Easter. Like you, we don't celebrate either.

    Your table looks precious.

    Congrats to the winners.
