Year without shopping - March update

So far March has been, and will probably continue to be, a challenging month
for me in many ways - including in the 'no shopping year' regard.
One of my 'comfort things' is bargain hunting, at sales or on-line,
and I need more comfort than usual lately. Add to the fact that I'm trying
to loose weight by not eating any sweets or drinking alcohol...

Last week we received a clothing shipment to the store. I placed the order
over 6 months ago and it included a lace dress that I ordered mostly for myself.
Luckily it didn't fit as well as I had hoped, but it was a close call for my wallet.
At the same time we received the sandals for summer, and though a pair
of sandals are exempt from the 'no shopping', I wanted all of them...

Then in a week I'm doing my little hop over to the States, and even though
I don't have much time on my hands I do want to do a little shop browsing.
But what do I do if I find amazing things (which I probably will)?
It's been years since I was abroad and this trip is a treat to myself,
so I am considering giving myself that week off the 'no shopping'.

How are you guys doing?
Are you on or off the wagon?

  1. You should totally give yourself a week off to do some shopping, Ms. Misantropia! I bet there's some really good sales going on right now in the States. Although I'll be very curious to see if you like the clothes down there as much as those you can get in Sweden. I'm betting not ... ;)

Jeez, only a week to go - you must be getting very excited! ❤

    1. Yeah, you think it's sale time? That'd be good :)
It's been 15 years since I was in the Sates last, so what the stores have to offer will be a surprise.

  2. I'm still on track and have bought nothing that was on my list! Don't take it too hard if you can't make it, you are currently going through a hard time. Sometimes cheer me up shoes are better than depression...

  3. Of course you should have the week off!
Do as much shopping as you can afford to, and forget about the diet too,
I guarantee you'll find so many tasty treats you've never tried before.
You must be soooo excited to be seeing your Cinnamon Man again :)

    1. Yes, I've decided to take the time off. I'm only on the ground for 3 days, so I won't have that much time to shop anyway.
Getting both nervous and excited, for sure.

  4. If you're giving up sweets and booze, then you need to shop- I know I do!!! I hope you have a safe trip over to our side of the pond :)

    1. I know, giving up everything at the same time might not have been the best decision when I'm also left alone for a long time...

  5. I do well on the no-shopping thing since I don't like shopping very much. My husband, however, is always buying crap he doesn't really need. It's very Egyptian to enjoy today and assume tomorrow will take care of itself. It's very western to feel like you have to work really hard and "deserve" what you buy. My advice to you is to save your money for future trips to see your sweetheart. <3

    1. Funny hearing about a man buying lots of crap he doesn't need - my man never buys anything. I have to pester him to get some nice clothes, and in the two years we've lived together he hasn't bought a single pair of shoes...

  8. Ouuu I may be a bad influence but I'd definitely consider removing the ban for your trip to the States! Such beautiful, inexpensive clothing there!

    1. I know, everything in the States is much cheaper than in Sweden. So really, I am saving money by shopping over there ;)

  9. I believe this call for a bit of time off from your no-shopping for a year bit. Some things are important enough that we shouldn't change them, but when life happens and it happens rough, we should probably revisit our priorities. At the moment (and always) your sanity and mental tranquility is worth way more than any challenge.

    1. Agreed. I need some comfort and as silly as it sounds, some shopping might help a little.

  10. Buying one or two things when you're visiting another country is justifiable, although I will say it's easy to get a little carried away!
I hope you have a wonderful visit =D

  12. Ehh...I'm totally off the wagon...I got the wardrobe relaunch - bug a couple of seeks ago, then I found this amazing vintage thrift store...I'mfeeling so guilty, but now I'm done with shopping for a while. Seriously.

I think, you can afford to give yourself some slack while you're in the States, you deserve it. :)
