Dream destination blog hop!

lexacain.blogspot.se/

I have been thinking quite a lot about the theme of this blog hop.
I love the idea of posting about one's Dream Destination,
but no one place immediately comes to mind. Instead my inner
eagle keeps darting here and there - all over the world!

One minute I am celebrating Halloween in New York and Salem,
the next I am visiting the American northwest and Vancouver
- then I hop on down to a sunny island in the Bahamas.
I find myself sitting by the fire in a cottage in Wales, just to wander
through a beautiful garden in Arizona the very next moment.

Why, you might ask? Well, I tell you: Because these are some
of the places where my dear blog friends can be found!

In my late teens and early twenties I was a restless soul. I rarely spent more
than 6 months in any one place, and there was always another country,
another city that was calling to me. But those wandering days are far behind
me now, and I can't remember when I last had a proper vacation anywhere
except at home. I bought a country house, I adopted cats - this is my life now.

Yes, I feel thoroughly cured of the traveling bug, but over the last few years
I have developed a new kind of social life - at a distance, with all of you :)
You guys tell the greatest stories and share the most gorgeous pictures.
Especially now, when some of you are sharing your holidays in my blog challenge,
I get even more curious about your countries and their people. So if I had to
choose to go somewhere right now? I would be visiting with any one of you guys!

Thanks to Lexa Cain and Julie Flanders for hosting!

  1. I'm sooo happy I am not the only one who wanders when it comes to dream destinations. I want to go everywhere, and stay there for at least a month. I love Arizona, especially at night. And Vancouver is wonderful, and you know I want to go the American Northwest! I guess if one of us wins the lottery, we need to invite the other to come along. Hm, I better start playing the lottery. I doubt I will win by just wishing ;-)

    1. Agreed. If I ever start playing the lottery, and if I ever win HUGE - I will hop over to you, and we'll do the Americanas :D

  2. I guess, I'm never going to be cured of the travelling bug, but my life's taken a different course and I can't even afford travelling at the moment. My dream destination is definitely in Asia, Japan, if I have to pick one. :)

    1. I can hardly afford living at the moment, so I totally hear you. But we can dream for the future!

  3. Oh, this is such a great choice! One of the things I love most about blogging is getting to meet so many great people from all over the world. It's such an amazing gift that I didn't expect when I first started this.

Thanks so much for participating in our Hop!

    1. Yes, I love how friendly and intimate the blogging world can get at times, when you feel just a blink away from your friends :)

      Thanks for hosting!

  4. Those are all great places to visit!

  5. How sweet! I did a lot of travel in my twenties and even part of my thirties, that we sort of become home bodies, but I'm also so glad that I did it when I was young. We sort of got tired of it, but in the last few years we have not been able to travel at all due to work changes. I love the purple Santa Rita Prickly pear. One can eat the fruit off it. I use to have some when I lived outside the city. It was tricky, because the outside is filled with prickers, but it makes nice jam. One can also buy syrup and candy. I hope to grow a garden in the back of this place someday. I really love Vanessa's.

    1. I have always been curious about he Prickly Pear, and at some point I will have to try it. And I'm a total home body now too :)

  6. I don't think I ever caught a travelling bug. I only want to travel to places that already feel like home to me, isn't that odd? I went to Ireland in my teens, and now want to travel to New England, two places that already infect my daily living in the best possible way :P

    1. Some people just don't have that tug I suppose. Sometimes I think that tug is a feeling of something missing, so you might be better off without it :)

  7. I love the photos, and the choices on where you'd choose to go.
I was never a traveling kind of person-- if not for meeting my husband, I probably would go the rest of my life never having been outside of Alberta Canada.
But since meeting him... well the list of places I've been exploded, heheh.

    1. I feel like I can understand both sides now, but when I was younger I didn't understand the people my age who went right from school to work, and never left their hometown. Though it's different in Sweden, we are one of the most traveled people per capita in the world.

  8. I don't think the travel bug is ever really cured. It just lies dormant, waiting for the opportunity to arise again.

    1. Maybe you're right. If I didn't have the cats I probably would be traveling. It's a question of priorities at this stage in my life.

  9. Aww. That is so sweet. People are the best destination. I really loved the montage of pics - you picked beautiful ones. Thanks for joining the hop! :-)

    1. Traveling to people's homes instead of hotels is a totally different experience. Living, eating and seeing their everyday lives is the best way to experience a new country, I think.

  10. You've shared some terrific pictures, and I know what you mean about how difficult it would be to select just one place. There are soooooo many fabulous places in the world, selecting just one would be like going into a smorgasbord with tables and tables laden with every kind of food imaginable, but under restrictions to select only one item.

I'm glad you got to do a lot of traveling already, and I understand your contentment with where you are now. If my hubby wants to travel anywhere, that'd be fine with me, but I'm also happy as a pig in the mud with staying at home.

It's very nice to meet you. Count me in as your newest groupie.

Oh and you made me hungry now - for a proper Smörgåsbord :) Good thing we can find them everywhere right now, in Sweden around Jul.

  11. I actually get to go to some of my dream locations next year! I have never left the U.S. but my husband, told me that next year we are taking a trip (possibly two) to Europe, and I get to pick where I want to go. How can I ever possible decide??? We know we are going to stop by and visit friends in Switzerland :)

    SvaraRadera
    Svar
    1. That's great but yes, impossible to choose!
I know that some Americans view Europe almost as one country, but every region is very different from the next. Which is the best to visit also depends alot on what time of year you are going. For instance, I would only recommend Scandinavia between June and September. Whereas I would stay away from the Mediterranean during that same time.

  12. Okay, I've loved all the entries in this blog hop so far, but I'm going out on a limb and saying you should win the prize for best picture. That montage is dreamy! And I agree, ultimately, friendship is the best destination. I think you articulated that beautifully for all of us! ❤

  19. Oh, I know what you mean, Ms. Misantropia! Every time somebody writes about someplace interesting, I want to go there! But there's only so much money and so we have to make choices about what we want to see most. I think we have maybe two more overseas trips left in our budget, and we still want to see Scandinavia and Britain. But I can't make up my mind! Thank goodness we can travel vicariously through other blogs, right? :D

    SvaraRadera
    Svar
    1. Yes thank goodness we can :)
If you are planning a trip to Scandinavia I recommend the high summer months, any other time can be pretty dreary. There are also quite a few budget flights between Copenhagen or Stockholm and London, so you might be able to do the British Isles in the same tour.

      Radera
    2. Good idea, Ms. Misantropia - I never thought of combining those two into one! :D

  20. I also traveled in my younger days and its a good thing I did, because I barely leave my home town at this point
