Changes and gifties

Jul is all but over and I'm sitting in bed with a furry baby on my lap,
tired but content. Although (or perhaps, because) I couldn't quite
muster up much in the way of Jul feeling this year, the post Jul blues
also - luckily - seems to have escaped me.

It could also be that I am looking at some time off work.
In the coming 2 weeks I will only be working 2 days around New Year's.
Besides that, January will be a time of contemplation and analysis for me.
I have some important decisions to make. Life altering, really.
More on that to come.

Just before the holidays I received a lovely package from a blog friend,
in the form of giveaway winnings. I had won a vintage pick of my choice
at the wonderful Etsy shop of Yvonne's at Winter's Moon - Woot!
I was very excited and chose a small silver evening purse.

When the package from Wales arrived however,
generous Yvonne had added a host of other great things;
'Fragile Things' by Neil Gaiman, a crocheted purple doily, postcards,
an old key, little skulls for decoration... The gift was amazing,
and a wonderful pick-me-up at an otherwise rough time for me.

For Lille Julafton (the 23rd) Cinnamon man gifted us both
the new Tomb Raider game (which we've played for two days
straight, and that I'm quite enjoying) - and then of course
there was Julafton at my parents' with my brother's family.

The food was wonderful and I ate way too much. I have three
young nieces and we always have someone dress up as Santa,
knock on the door and bring a bag of gifts for the kids. For a while
the hype was out of control, but that's just how it's supposed to be.

This year I was gifted things like sheep skin booties, a purse, a book,
a cake shape, candle holders, an espresso bean grinder and an assortment
of small bottles of port. Really I got much more than I expected!
And as always, we were sent home with a basket brimming with leftovers.

The jar lanterns above are really simple to make, with fine glitter,
glue, some beads and string. It looks like there's frost on the glass
and they matched my new little snow flake candle holders perfectly.

So - how were your holidays?
Did you get to spend some quality time with family and friends?
Did you get what you wished for?

  1. First and foremost, Merry Yule/Jul and a most Blessed New Year. Things around here were extremely emotional and I missed Mom terribly. But, everyone will have to go through this one day and the only way out is through. I'm very happy that the holidays are over and very excited for the New Year. I love January ... the quiet, the solitude, the calm. There's work to be done and it's a perfect month to do it!

I received a beautiful cameo and pearl necklace, a coffin shaped garnet ring and an electric tea kettle. WAHOO! Everyone was so generous and calm this year, which made it all that better.

    1. I'm glad to hear you had a nice and calm Christmas, Professor.

I don't usually share your sentiment about January. The beginning of the year is always hard on me, I could hibernate until June. But this January will be different, I just don't know in what way yet.

  2. Christmas food is always good, and that box of finest ports looks pretty amazing as well. My Christmas was indeed spent with my family.

  3. What an adorable fur baby!

I'm glad you'll finally be taking a break from work, and have a relaxing January ahead, although your life altering decisons seem worrying. I hope they become easier.

So happy that you liked the purse (good choice) and little gifts.

You've had some adorable Christmas gifts. I was truly spoilt this year too.

Take care Ms Misantropia. I wish you happy times ahead, with your Cinnamon Man :)

    1. Thank you, Yvonne! I'm glad you too were spoiled :)

Yes, the decisions ahead, and my whole life situation, is kind of worrying right now. I hope to be clearer about things at the end of January.

  4. Glad you had a nice time. It's always fun to get more than you expected :)
It was a noisy, food filled Christmas here... I enjoyed it.
    Have a great day.

  5. I'm happy to hear you're resting up after all the hubbub.
I hope your New Year's will be as you hope it to be.

Your gifts sound really wonderful, and your fur baby is super adorable-- it makes me miss my Khan baby.

For Christmas, my younger brother paid my way for a visit to see him and the rest of my family and friends. unfortunately, my husband couldn't make the trip-- so although I am spending it with my family, I wish it was with *all* the people I care for. I am staying for an entire month, and already 2 weeks have past.

  6. I'm glad to hear you've had a great time, now you deserve some rest after being such a busy bee during the entire holiday season. ^^

I've had a great time with my boyfriend's parents and my family as well, but our holidays are rather quiet this year; everyone in my family had a pretty stresstful month, soI guess, we all just want to relax too. :)

  7. Your cat looks a bit startled from the picture taking! lol The purse Yvonne sent you is gorgeous, and it was so sweet of her to include all the extra gifts. In fact all your gifts are pretty awesome! I hope that you, your family, and Cinnamon man have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2014! :-)

    1. He totally was :) I was hoping to catch him in his cute sleeping pose, but then the cord from the camera caught his eye and he was all curious.

Happy New Year to you too!

  8. I LOVE Fragile Things! I shall add it to my list of books to reread in 2014. And Yvonne is such a darling, look at those purses.

My holiday season has been really yummy. I've had a few health issues, nothing serious but a bit debilitating, all good now--my Piano Man made sure I slept a lot.

I'm hoping for a 2014 full of things I can handle and enjoy. I'm sending lots of good thoughts and clarity your way. Decision making can be such a draining thing. Hugs!

  10. Have to be honest (and where is is better to be honest than among friends) I am usually such yule-ish person but this year was not the same. I enjoyed the decor, shopping, food and gifts throughout the month, but the actually holidays of Christmas eve and Christmas were very stressful! Family bickering, messes galore, and trying to please everyone. Never have I had such a stressful Christmas in my life! Might skip it next year, jet off somewhere nice. One can dream :P

  12. I love your beautiful post and happy you had time to enjoy! I arrived back from interstate later than expected and had about 3 das to prepare for Christmas, from finding the tree under the stairs (we still didn't find our nativity scene) to picking up mum, shopping, wrapping and sweating (it's so HOT) here, we have cold table, ham, pawns, crab, and lots of salads with a cracker to pull of course :) usually we have a cast of, well heaps, but this year my siblings and families met up prior to Christmas, so just my hubby, 2 babes, and my mum who we flew up from Sydney (she is wonderful, it is a gift her just being here)...
BUT what I wanted to say, was a HUMONGOUS thank you!!!!!!!! Your precious parcel of fabulous goodies arrived the day after I had left and was waiting here when I returned just prior to Christmas, and EVERY day since I have thought of you, your kindness, the gorgeous way you packed all those goodies and handmade the cards (did you make those candles and soap bomb too??) and how I wanted to give you a big hug because I LOVED it, I even lit 2 of the candles last night, we had a big tropical storm last night and a blackout, so I told my mum about you and showed her what arrived while I had been away... You know what she said(?) as old as she is (82) she is always amazed at the kindness of people, and how creative and handmade gifts are always the most treasured, and you know what, she's right!
Much love sent and hope you have a magic festive season x

The little candles were handmade, but not the soap bomb :)

Your Christmas sounds like it was a little crazy, but lovely.
Hope you have a wonderful New Year's Eve!

  13. It was a quiet Christmas, Ms. Misantropia. The offspring came and spent a couple of days with us and we took them out to see the new house, as they hadn't seen it since it was started. I didn't have any Christmas tree or decorations to put away this year, and that was actually kind of nice!

I'll be thinking of you as you are making some difficult decisions this month. ♥

We had a low key Christmas ... some handmade things, some vintage, and a few little goodies from IKEA too.

It will be nice for you to enjoy some time off to take care of you. I hope this next year is a happy and healthy year for you and your family.
