September, pumpkins and a wedding

For me, tomorrow is the official beginning of autumn, and therefore this weekend
also marks the start of two whole months of Halloween celebrations!
To kick off this wonderful time of year I harvested the brunt of our pumpkins.

Many of the pumpkins have been orange for well over a month,
but the green house is also over-run with mildew after the unusually hot summer.
So even though there are about as many left on the vines that wouldn't be ready
until in a month or so, we can't be sure of how they'll turn out.

Today we are going to a wedding and I have made another harvest gift basket
for the couple. Luckily we grew several small gift-size pumpkins this year,
so I haven't regretting parting with some - yet. But this is the last one! :)

You can't really tell through the cellophane but I lined the basket with white tulle,
then filled it with homegrown goodies, wine and fancy chocolate from the store,
a candle and some of my own homemade black and red currant jelly
and my gooseberry-cinnamon-apple jam. I also made matching tags and cards.
I really hope they like it. I'm not stellar at social engagements, so I'm a bit anxious.

  1. Beautiful! They will be delighted with your thoughtful, delicious gifts. Your pumpkins are beautiful! (Sounds a bit like a pick up line in a Halloweeny bar.)My own pumpkin vines are providing nourishment for grasshoppers and cicadas. Hurray for two months of Halloween!!!

    1. I love the idea of a Halloween bar where everyone is dressed up and using cheesy themed pick-up lines :D

  6. Halloween is in the springtime here so the stores import a small quantity of the orange pumpkins to use for Halloween celebrations. Not only do they cost a small fortune, but I think we get sent the rejects. They're always a bit ugly and misshapen. Still, I've got to have my Halloween Jack-o'-Lantern, so I buy one and just try and find the best angle for the face. Your pumpkins, on the other hand, are utterly swoon-worthy!

Your harvest gift basket for the wedding is beautiful and such a lovely idea! Hope you have a good time! :)

    1. Pricey reject pumpkins :( That sounds like a bad joke. I just can't imagine Halloween in spring time, but I'm sure you guys make it work somehow ;)

  7. It's so sweet of you to make such a personalized gift for your friends rather than going commercial and buying something generic. Fresh things grown in your own garden are so much more of a treat - and the basket looks wonderful! I hope you have a good time. :-)

    1. We have several over grown berry bushes and if I don't do something with them they just sit there and make me feel bad... :)

  9. Oh how I wish I could grow pumpkins! Or even have a nearby friend who grows them who could give me a few :P They're so dreamy!

  10. I think it was a very thoughtful gift - so much nicer than another toaster! Glad to hear you had a good time. I always stress a lot before a large function like that, too. :o)

    1. I suck at social gatherings. I almost took off Cinnamon man's head while we were parking... But once it's on I'm ok :)
